Tutoring

Oconee Education and Prep is committed to engaging its students through one on one tutoring that is designed to challenge thinking in a way that creates a passion for learning.

The staff at Oconee Education and Prep can provide academic counseling and assessment in the academic disciplines: reading, writing and math for all students as well as subject specific for older kids ( algebra, geometry, biology, chemistry, physics).

Counseling

Pre-K through Grade 5

Dr. Barrett and Mrs. Jones can guide families with decisions based on assessment as to appropriate level, program and school. Reading, writing and math specialists are available for consultation on specific learning needs.

Oconee Education and Prep currently refers students with speech and language or other special needs to local experts with whom they have forged solid partnerships.

Middle School, High School, College and Adult Education

Dr. Lisa Barrett, Director, has an expertise in transition counseling and can help families prepare children for changes in schools, levels or programs.

Transition preparation includes counseling with regard to academic goals and social issues. A plan can be developed to make the change successful with tutoring that engages the student, builds academic skills as well as organization, motivation and study skills. Counseling focuses on how to be an exceptional learner.

The college admissions process can take up a huge part of family life. Dr. Barrett draws upon her work as a former Columbia University administrator and professor in counseling students and parents on the ins and outs of the college admissions process. As a former dissertation adviser, she can help high school students formulate a personal essay that is both academically sophisticated and uniquely distinctive.

Dr. Barrett has a wealth of experience with college academic advisement with regard to choosing majors as well. Counseling students to make good college and life decisions is her passion.

Adult education is much needed but often overlooked. The staff at Oconee Education and Prep is dedicated to helping adult learners achieve educational goals in a timely and productive framework. Counseling and tutoring in literacy, English as a Second Language and business writing is offered at flexible times to accommodate busy adults’ schedules.

The goal of test preparation is to maximize familiarity with a given test in terms of both test structure and question design. At Oconee Education and Prep, instructors are exceptional at preparing students to get the highest score possible as well as to learn how to think and break down questions with regard to what is really being asked of them.
